Jarmin Weng

16-year-old Jarmin Weng began his musical studies with piano at the young age of 6 and gradually expanded to include violin and cello. His dedication and hard work have led to significant achievements in each of these instruments. In 2021, Jarmin completed the ARCT in piano performance with first-class honors with distinction through the Royal Conservatory of Music Certificate Program. He also achieved level 10 in both cello and violin performance with first-class honors in 2022 and 2021, respectively.
In 2021, Jarmin joined the Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists at the RCM for piano performance. This opportunity allowed him to engage with celebrated musicians like Stewart Goodyear, John Perry, and James Anagnoson in masterclasses, further enriching his musical education.
Jarmin's exceptional skills have been widely recognized across various piano competitions. In 2023, he achieved first place at both the Long Island International Piano Competition and the Montecatini Junior International Piano Competition. Additionally, he earned second place at the 2023 ArtePiano International Piano Competition and a silver medal at the 2022 Piano Star International Piano Competition. Notably, at the Canadian Music Competition, he triumphed by securing first place and a gold medal in the 14-year-old category for piano in 2022, after achieving second places in 2019 and 2017. Furthermore, in 2021, he won the bronze award in the 11-13 age group at the Canada International Piano Competition and clinched the grand prize in his age group at the 2019 Steinway and Sons Youth Piano Competition. Jarmin has also garnered top awards and numerous first-place finishes in other contests, including the OMFA, MMF, NYMF, IMFC, and CCC.
Jarmin's solo performance experience is extensive, having played with orchestras on several notable occasions. His notable performances include Beethoven’s “Emperor” (5th) Concerto with the York Chamber Ensemble in May 2022, as well as Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G, which he performed with the Kindred Spirits Orchestra in February 2020 and again in January 2022. His performances have graced various prestigious venues, including Steinway Hall in New York City, Flato Markham Theatre, Cornell Recital Hall, Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, Mazzoleni Hall, Temerty Theatre, CBC Glenn Gould Studio, and Carnegie Hall.
Previously studying under Meizhi Bi, Jarmin is currently under the tutelage of Li Wang and Dr. Michael Berkovsky at the Royal Conservatory of Music.
