2023 Radda Rise International String Competition
Lena Kim is a rising sophomore at Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences and she is part of the EMMI (Elizabeth Mandell Music Institute) program at the school. Lena began her violin studies at the age of five. Since then, she has always enjoyed playing the violin. Currently, she is being instructed by violinist Yoomin Seo, who is the associate concertmaster of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra.
In the summer of 2022, Lena participated in the Montecito International Music Festival and had the opportunity to study with famous violinists like Cho-Liang Lin, as well as Martin Chalifour, the concertmaster of Los Angeles Philharmonic. This summer, she attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, where she studied with violinists Klaudia Szlachta and Michael Duffett. Over the course of ten years, Lenaparticipated in many national and international competitions such as Southwestern Youth Music Festival, The Music Center’s Spotlight, and American Protégé International Music Competition and she has been a prizewinner every year. Lenahas many experience on stage and she feels that she is the happiest when performing. While every moment with her violin were equally memorable, Lena believes that the time that she truly cannot forget is when she was the first prize winner of the American Protégé International Competition and had the thrilling opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall in 2019. Lenais a member of the LA Sinfonietta Debut Orchestra, where she performs with fellow musicians in many concert halls, nursing homes, and various other locations. As much as she loves listening to her favorite musicians’ performances, she aspires that one day, people will look forward to her performances and enjoy listening to them.
