Italian pianist Pietro Freiburger holds degrees from the Conservatory of Turin, including Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance and Organ Performance with honors, Master of Music in Piano Performance, and National Teaching Certificate in Music. During his time in Turin, he studied piano with Bruno Bosio, Maria Dalbesio, Caterina Vivarelli, and Giacomo Fuga as well as Gianluca Cagnani, one of Europe’s leading organists and Bach specialists. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Music in Piano Performance at the Université de Montréal in Canada where he also recently completed an Advanced Diploma in Piano Performance in the class of Jimmy Brière.
Pietro regularly performs in various concert venues. As a pianist, he has performed in Italy (Giuseppe Verdi Hall, Teatro Vittoria, Reggia di Venaria, Chiesa di Santa Pelagia in Turin) and Canada (Claude Champagne Hall and Serge Garant Hall in Montreal). As an organist, he performed in Italy (on the prestigious Pinchi organs at the Basilica del Colle Don Bosco in Castelnuovo Don Bosco and at the Waldensian Temple in Turin) and in Switzerland (on the prestigious Mascioni organs in Bellinzona and Giubiasco).
His recent accomplishments include the Honorable Mention in the 2023 American Virtuoso International Music Competition, the Honorable Mention in the 2022 Radda Rise International Piano Competition, 1st prize in the 2022 International Piano Competition Città di Albenga and 3rd prize in the 2021 International Piano Competition Città di Castiglione Falletto.
He has participated in masterclasses with pianists and organists of international acclaim such as José Mendes, Aleksandar Madzar, Michel Béroff, Nikita Fitenko, Roberto Plano, Christa Butzberger, Andrea Lucchesini (piano) and Enrico Viccardi, Michael Radulescu, Ton Koopman, and Peter Westerbrinck (organ). Pietro’s studies with Alessandro Ambrosoli, a pupil of Lazar Berman, and Paolo Fiamingo, accompanist and vocal coach at the Arena di Verona, were also pivotal in his musical training.
As an active pedagogue and scholar, Pietro has taught piano, organ, and theory at various schools as well as private and public institutions throughout Italy. He currently serves as Graduate Teaching Assistant and Graduate Research Assistant in the Faculty of Music at Université de Montréal. He regularly works as a liturgical organist and choir organist in Italy and Canada. As a writer, Pietro writes CD and concert reviews for Canada's leading music magazine, La Scena Musicale.
Outside of music, Pietro dedicates himself to athletics and competes in track and field at various national and international events. As a member of Athletic Club 96, Italy’s most prestigious track club, he has been a regional champion multiple times and regularly places in the top 10 in many races at the national level. Additionally, he actively practices Ashtanga Yoga, swimming, cycling, cross-country skiing, mountaineering, and hiking. In his free time, he loves spending time in nature, cooking, gardening, and reading.
