Dário Cunha began his musical studies in a private lessons regime and Prof. Paula Ramos, and later entered the Conservatoire of Castelo Branco in the class of Prof. Luciana Leiderfarb and later in the class of Prof. Maria Helena Nunes. As a student of the Conservatoire he was the ex-aequo winner of the Fernando Lopes Graça prize and finalist of the national competition of the Portuguese Musical Youth in 1995, held in Coimbra and in Lisbon.
He started his Bachelor in Piano at the University of Aveiro in the class of Dr. Nancy Lee Harper and later transferred to the School of Applied Arts in Castelo Branco, where he graduated in 2005 in the class of Dr. Caio Pagano – acclaimed teacher, pianist and Steinway Artist - and Prof. Paulo Alvares.
After completing his degree, he was awarded a scholarship for a professional internship in the Leonardo da Vinci Project which was held between 2005 and 2006 at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Germany, where he held several concerts and made his solo debut under the direction of the maestro Matthias Kiefer.
In addition to the bachelor’s degree, he holds two master's degrees, having acquired a Master's degree in Performance - Piano Specialization in 2012 and a Master's Degree in Music Teaching - Instrument and Ensemble Music in 2014.
Throughout his training, he had the opportunity to work with musicians of national and international recognition such as Pedro Burmester, Maria João Pires, Jorge Moyano, Tania Achot, Álvaro Teixeira Lopes, Mika Akiyama, Adam Wodnicki, István Lantos, Daniel Rowland, Ariadne Daskalakis, Maurizio Dini Ciacci, Jerome Granjon, among others.
He is very active as soloist as well as integrated in chamber music groups and in orchestra, having performed in several concert halls all over the country, such as the CCB and the Porto Coliseum, and abroad in countries such as Germany, Italy and Belgium. He is also regularly invited to join as piano accompanist in various national and international competitions.
With more than 15 years of teaching experience, many of his students have won several prizes in national and international competitions, and some of them are now following their own careers as concert pianists and teachers. He also had the opportunity to participate has jury in piano competitions, namely on the International Competition - “Cidade do Fundão”.
He was a Piano Teacher and Piano Accompanist at the Music Conservatory of Covilhã between 2006 and 2008, he was Assistant-Guest Professor at the School of Applied Arts between 2010 and 2014 and he joined the Pedagogical Board of directors of the School of Music of CCPAC in Belmonte between 2016 and 2017.
Since 2008, he has been working at Fundão Music and Dance Academy as a Piano Teacher and Piano Accompanist, and, since 2017, coordinating the Piano Department. Since 2013 he has also held positions at the Covilhã Professional School of Arts (EPABI) as Piano Teacher, Chamber Music Teacher and Accompanist.
