Jacob Surak began playing cello at the age of 10 in his native state of South Carolina. He had the privilege of working with the best teachers available, which included Jacqueline Taylor, Bob Jesselson, and Christopher Hutton. He was an active member of five different orchestras by the time he was 16 and won numerous competitions throughout his youth. He now attends the University of North Texas on scholarship for cello performance under the tutelage of Eugene Osadchy. Jacob prides himself on being an active chamber musician, orchestral player, and pedagogue in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Currently, he teaches a studio of 16 students ranging in all levels. Along with cello, Jacob also studies organ with Jesse Eschbach at the University of North Texas. Jacob's most recent projects involve writing a method book for misconceptions in teaching of beginner to advanced cello techniques and preparation for graduate school.
