Karim Ayala Pool is a concert violinist currently pursuing his Doctorate degree in Musical Arts in Violin Performance at the University of North Texas, under the tutelage of Professor Julia Bushkova, where he also serves as the Graduate Teaching Assistant for the UNT Baroque Orchestra and Professor Paul Leenhouts.
Mr. Ayala Pool actively performs internationally, especially throughout Mexico and USA. He serves as the principal second violin with the Shreveport Symphony, he is also section member of the Waco Symphony and has served as a substitute violinist for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony, Austin Philharmonie, Dallas Bach Society, Sarasota Orchestra, and The Florida Orchestra. He was the sole finalist for the Concertmaster position for the West Texas Symphony in 2020.
As a soloist, Mr. Ayala Pool has performed with the Yucatán Symphony Orchestra (OSY), the Merida Chamber Orchestra in Mexico, and the UNT Baroque Orchestra amongst other ensembles.
Mr. Ayala Pool is a very active chamber musician, and his broad repertoire includes works from all eras. He is part of the Clarinet, Violin and Piano Trio “STR3TTO”, and he is the first violin of the “Adrienne” String Quartet. As a Baroque violinist with the Early Music Chamber Ensemble “Fantasmi” Mr. Ayala Pool toured Colombia and Puerto Rico in November 2021 and the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany in the summers of 2022 and 2023. He also is a founding member of the new music collective “Homegrown”, a non-profit organization that highlights and performs works from local composers in multiple areas of the country and leads an active role in a mission to get new music performed. The 2023 premier recording of composer Michael Daugherty “American Gothic” features Mr. Ayala Pool as a soloist with North Texas Wind Symphony under the baton of Maestro Eugene Corporon as part of the album “Respair” from the WindWorks Series of GIA Records.
Mr. Ayala Pool has a strong passion for academics and pedagogy, and he is very experienced in all-age groups from beginners to college-level. He has maintained a private studio over the past 5 years and up to spring 2021 he served on the faculty for the Tampa Metropolitan Youth Orchestra. Since the pandemic, he has grown his private studio virtually and internationally. Mr. Ayala Pool also advocates for teaching in more rural areas across the world, offering masterclasses and clinics in the Yucatán Peninsula as well as the Online International Masterclass Series “Musicians for the World”. He served as a reviewer for the “2021 Radda Rise International Violin Competition,” the “2022 Radda Rise International String Competition” where he is also a guest speaker for the virtual lecture series, and the “2023 Radda Rise International String Competition.”
When Mr. Ayala Pool isn't playing violin, he can usually be found lifting weights, playing video games, and safely socializing.
