Clarinetist Samuel Marques regularly collaborates as a guest musician with Portugal’s Gulbenkian Orchestra, Remix Ensemble Casa da Música and Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, and as a permanent musician with the Atlantic Coast Orchestra. He has performed with names such as Joyce DiDonato, Maria João Pires, Arcadi Volodos, Waltraud Meier, Piotr Anderszewski, Mário Laginha, Quarteto Vintage. Mr. Marques is on the Clarinet faculty at Jobra Music Conservatory (Branca, Portugal), Colégio Moderno’s Music School (Lisbon, Portugal) and Albergaria Club Music Academy (Albergaria-a-Velha, Portugal).
Mr. Marques began his studies at the age of five at Banda Visconde de Salreu. Afterwards, he studied with Nelson Aguiar (Aveiro Music Conservatory), António Saiote (Music and Performing Arts College – Porto), Stanley Drucker and Pascual Martínez-Forteza (New York University’s Steinhardt School). At NYU he was also an Adjunct Instructor.
Mr. Marques has been awarded in several competitions in Europe, US and South America. Since 2013, Mr. Marques has been selected to numerous orchestra festivals, such as the National Repertory Orchestra (USA), Castleton Festival Orchestra (USA), World Peace Orchestra (USA), New York Youth Symphony (USA), Atlantic Music Festival (USA), Neue Philharmonie München (Germany), Internationale Junge Orchesterakademie (Germany), just to name a few.
In 2017, he was awarded with the 1st Prize at the 7th National Young Clarinetists Competition of the Portuguese Clarinet Association (Portugal), 2nd Prize at the Clarinet Competition of the 1st Algarve Clarinet Festival (Portugal) and was selected as one of the winners of the IMKA Grand Prix Concert Competition (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Mr. Marques was invited to appear at the Alexander Arutiunian International Wind Festival (Yerevan, Armenia) where he performed with the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia, in chamber music concerts and also taught a masterclass. In 2018, Mr. Marques was given the 1st Prize at the 6th International Winds Competition of Alto Minho (Portugal), the 3rd Prize at the II The North International Music Competition (Sweden) and was a soloist with Portugal’s Atlantic Coast Orchestra. He was invited to be on the jury of the 6th National Winds Competition “Sons de Cabral” (Portugal).
During the present year, Mr. Marques has taught masterclasses at Guarda Music Conservatory and Troviscal Wind Band. He was invited to collaborate with ENOA (European Network of Opera Academies) and selected to the Höri Musiktage Bodensee Festival Orchestra (Germany). www.samuel-marques.com
