Taiwanese baritone, WeiShu Tsai, has been praised for his rich vocal color, wide range, and strong stage presence. His repertoire is large and diverse, ranging from the seventeenth century to the present. Tsai has appeared in various international opera and concert productions with acclaimed orchestras and opera companies. His recent stage engagements including Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus and Papageno in Die Zauberflöte with Dallas Classical Singers, Narrator in Hansel and Gretel with Diversita Opera Arts, Dandini in La Cenerentola with Alamo City Opera, Alfio in Cavalleria rusticana and Marullo in Rigoletto with The Louisiana Opera, Sam in Trouble in Tahiti and Doncaïre in Carmen with Spotlight on Opera, and Dottore Grenvil in La traviata with National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra. During his time at University of North Texas, he had consistently been casted in leading roles in UNT Opera, as well as with UNT Symphony and Concert Orchestras, including Leporello in Don Giovanni, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermore, Mercutio in Roméo et Juliette, Spalanzani in Les contes d’Hoffmann, and Doncaïre in Carmen. Back in Taiwan, Tsai was a former member of Taiwan Opera Studio, and Taipei Philharmonic Opera Studio, where he portrayed LinBe in The Black Bearded Bible Man with Taiwan Philharmonic, Monterone in Rigoletto and Pinollino in Gianni Schicchi with Taipei Symphony Orchestra, Tony in West Side Story and Don Giovanni in Don Giovanni with Taipei Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermore, Figaro in Il barbiere di Siglivia, and Orson in Too Many Sopranos with Taiwan Opera Studio.

Along with his stage works, Tsai is equally accomplished as a concert and recital artist. He has performed as the Bass Soloist and the Baritone Soloist in Handel’s Messiah with Dallas Philharmonic Choir, in Mozart’s Regina coeli and in Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass with Keller HS Music of the Masters Concert, in J.S. Bach’s Magnificat with Flower Mound Symphony Orchestra, in Lord Nelson Mass with Louisiana Tech University Fine Arts Festival, in Mozart’s Requiem with Flower Mound United Methodist Church, in Faure’s Requiem with Christ Church Plano, in Handel’s Messiah, Dixit Dominus, and Mozart’s Coronation Mass with Taipei International Choral Festival, in Mendelssohn’s Elijah, in Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle with Taipei Philharmonic Chorus, in Xian’s Yellow River Cantata with Taipei Chinese Orchestra, and in Lu’s Mazu Cantata with National Chinese Orchestra Taiwan.

With an extensive and rich teaching experiences, Tsai is currently teaching at Tarrant County College, has a large studio at Keller High School, and served as a Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas College of Music. Many of his students have been placed in NATS Auditions, TMEA All-State Choir, UIL All-Region Choir, the Denton Bach Society Young Musicians Competition, and have been admitted as music majors at the University of Texas, University of North Texas, Texas Christian University, and Berklee College of Music.

Tsai received his Doctor of Music Arts in Voice Performance from University of North Texas, and Master of Music from Nation Taipei University of Education. He is an active member in OPERA America, National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), Texas Music Educator Association (TMEA), College Music Society (CMS), Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society (PKL), and Association of Vocal Artists of ROC (AVA, Taiwan).
